Growing Asparagus in my Garden
I dug a deep trench on the east edge of my garden and planted asparagus starts which I bought from a local greenhouse.
I have the 5 foot wide area covered with bark dust for weed control, and I've allowed room for the asparagus to multiply, because my friend has an older bed of asparagus that has shoots sprouting up as they multiply off of the original roots.
They pick the first shoots from each plant, but towards the end of the season, they allow the shoots to grow up and seed out. This keeps the plants happy and they seem to get a larger crop each year.
I can't wait!
